Malta Fire Protection District responded to 16 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DeKalb Times.

The calls in Malta included 11 fires - seven structure fires and four other fires.

In all, the department saw $75,000 in fire loss - or about $6,818 per fire.

The department also received five false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian non-fire death.
