1. Potential Closure of Perry Elementary School
The Board of D100 is considering the possible closure of Perry Elementary School. The Board has conducted a Town Hall, a community stakeholder poll, and three public hearings to gather community input on the possible closure of PES.
While the Board in September of 2024 approved keeping Perry open, it
is now time to begin the design for the remodel that is necessary at
Perry School.
That means that it is now time to begin significant investment at Perry to keep it open for the future.
The Board is considering a potential closure due to the cost necessary to keep Perry open, the demographic study that indicates that we are not expecting significant growth and that we do have capacity at our other elementary schools at this time to serve our Perry students, providing comparable spaces for all of our students, and stakeholder feedback.
While the Board truly values our Perry students, staff and families and the history and importance of neighborhood schools, the Board also takes very seriously the responsibility of being good stewards of taxpayer dollars.
