Special Meeting Minutes
Call to Order: Mayor Latham called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM
Roll Call:
Present: Mayor Latham, City Clerk Ii, Aldermen Arnett, Chunn, Danko, Erickson, Inman, Ketchum, Kreinbrink & Robinson
Quorum established
Audience Comments: None
Appointment of New Legal Counsel / City Attorney: Attorney Carmen Forte, Jr. of Klein, Thorpe & Jenkins, introduced himself and colleagues Troy Wallace and Howie Jablucki. Attorney Forte spoke describing the firm as a 90+ year-old local government law practice with offices primarily in Westmont, IL. He emphasized the firm’s deep focus on local government, and they are prepared to handle all services requested including litigation, code enforcement, and related city functions. Highlighted was the firm’s accessibility, and availability, and they are accustomed to attending night meetings. Attorney Howie Jablucki also spoke saying he oversees the litigation department that included code enforcement and demotion actions.
Questions posed by the council included disposition of ongoing litigation matters, representation scope, and retainer structure.
Resolution 26-03 entitled “A Resolution Appointing the Law Firm of Klein, Thorpe & Jenkins, Ltd. as City Attorney for the City of Sandwich, Illinois, and Approving an Engagement Agreement with the Firm” presented for passage, and authorizing the mayor and city clerk necessary documentation.
Motion made by Alderman Robinson to pass Resolution 26-03 as presented. Alderman Arnett seconded. Aye: Aldermen Arnett, Chunn, Danko, Erickson, Inman, Ketchum, Kreinbrink & Robinson Nay: 0 Motion carried unanimously
Adjournment: Motion made by Alderman Robinson to adjourn at 6:12 PM. Motion was seconded by Alderwoman Erickson. Motion passed unanimously via voice vote.
