FOIA Request to Dekalb City Council Regarding Detailed Information of All Council Members on October 15, 2024.

In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at DeKalb Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Dekalb City Council. The request, made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, seeks information about all current council members.

The specific details requested include each council member’s name, title, year of appointment, term length (whether it is a two-year or four-year term), and the date their term expires. We have asked for this information preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We also asserted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public.

We will continue to update our readers as we receive responses from the Dekalb City Council and further pursue this matter. Our commitment remains steadfast – providing you with comprehensive news coverage that holds public institutions accountable and promotes transparency.
