The DeKalb Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Village of Kirkland seeking access to specific financial records. The request, sent on February 1, 2026, aims to obtain the village’s vendor payment register for the preceding calendar month. This includes detailed information such as the names of vendors paid by the city, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased.
The request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the records in electronic format. The DeKalb Times emphasizes that this request is intended to gather information of public interest for dissemination and does not require the creation of new documents. Should any part of this request be denied or withheld, they have asked for a specific statutory basis for such denial and the release of all reasonably segregable portions of the records.
