DeKalb Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 17

Heartland Bank and Trust Company in DeKalb presented their 2021 Heart of our Community award to Shawn Lowe at the August Chamber Business After Hours. This award was established to recognize local DeKalb residents who have stood out for volunteering with their time and talent to help others.

The Heart of Our Community award was presented by Tia Anderson, Retail Manager for Heartland Bank. Heartland Bank recognizes its responsibility extends beyond providing financial services to the communities they serve. “We strongly believe the ongoing success of a community involves good corporate citizenship and making a difference in the lives of others”, stated Anderson. This award was designed to recognize local residents who have done something extraordinary, touched someone by lending a helping hand or going above and beyond.

Shawn is a huge supporter of DeKalb and contributes and dedicates his time to the community. He serves on the Chamber Board of Directors, is an Ambassador, mentors and provides resources to businesses to assist in their success. Shawn is on the Board of Directors for the local animal shelter and is always pulling at the heart string of his Facebook followers with adorable photos of dogs up for adoption. One can only imagine the time that goes into organizing DeKalb’s annual Corn Fest, but Shawn plays an integral part in that as well.

Lowe received $100 Visa® gift card and a “Heart” award.

“What a great way to top off our Business After Hours evening! Presenting our Heart of Our Community award and recognizing this deserving person was absolutely my favorite part of the night, Shawn is very deserving. Keeping community in banking is what Heartland Bank and Trust Company is all about,” stated Theresa Jennings, Retail Support Manager for Heartland Bank.

Heartland Bank and Trust Company is a community bank with assets of approximately $3.9 billion. Headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois, the bank has offices in central and northern Illinois.
