Jeff Keicher isn’t mincing words about his disappointment in a recent Supreme Court decision where the court elected not to conclusively put an end to political gerrymandering.

“I’m disappointed that SCOTUS didn’t take an opportunity to help end political gerrymandering, but understand that the standing for the suits were an issue,” Keicher recently posted on Facebook. “We certainly don’t have a system where we should legislate from the bench.”

The high court’s ruling dates back to cases first brought before the courts more than three decades ago, with the Supreme Court acknowledging that partisan districting could cross a line.

Rep. Robert Pritchard

Keicher, a Sycamore Republican running for the seat being vacated by Rep. Robert Pritchard (R-Hinckley) in the 70th District, goes a step forward.

“We need thoughtful legislative action to stop legislators from picking their constituents,” he said.

Keicher has made tax reform and outmigration central themes of his campaign platform. He has also been adamant in expressing he thinks the state can be great again once lawmakers move to curb spiraling taxes and over-regulation.
