City of Sandwich Finance Committee met January 18

City of Sandwich Finance Committee met Jan. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairperson, Alderwoman Cara Killey, called the meeting to order at 8:05 AM.

Roll call was taken:

Present: City Clerk Ii, Aldermen Dell, Killey & Kreinbrink

Also Present: Mayor Robinson, Chief Bianchi, EMA Director Ciciora, Alderman Kelleher, and WSPY Reporter Jim Wyman

Discussion on the Proposed 2019-2020 Budget: The first meeting in preparation of the 2019- 2020 budget was for organizational purposes and discussing topics to be considered during the budget process. Discussion also included how to prioritize and fund capital projects. With the proposed hiring of a business administrator as a high priority, no new office help would be required at City Hall resulting in restructuring of current staff. Other topics discussed included a water / sewer rate study, vehicle replacement fund, cost sharing between departments, and joint bids with neighboring communities.

Committee set future meeting dates with the whole council present being January 27th after the Regular Council Meeting, January 29, February 8, 12, and 26th. Wednesday meetings are scheduled when Mayor Robinson will be present as well as Wes Levy from Lauterbach & Amen. Wednesday meetings are scheduled to begin at 1 PM, and the Saturday meeting will begin at 8 AM.

Alderwoman Sheryl Chmielewski, who was unable to attend, had provided recommendations to be considered being, but not limited to, cyber security for the City’s computers and website; hire business administrator, replacement of sound system for the Council Chambers, downtown street lighting, renovation of the new police department building, and flooding issues within the community.

Audience Comments: WSPY reporter, Jim Wyman, questioned if there was black mold at the current police station building. He also inquired about the adjudication procedural process.

Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Committee, motion made by Alderman Dell and seconded by Alderman Kreinbrink to adjourn the Special Finance Committee Meeting at 9:40 AM. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
