City of Sandwich Finance Committee met Jan. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Finance Chairwoman Killey called the meeting to order at 8:34 PM

Roll call was taken:

Present: Aldermen Dell, Killey & Kreinbrink; City Clerk Ii

Also Present: Alderman Chmielewski & WSPY Reporter Jim Wyman

Approval of Minutes: Motion made by Alderman Dell, and seconded by Alderman Kreinbrink, approving minutes from December 2nd & 16th, 2019 and January 6th, 2020. Voice vote was unanimous.

Review of Semi-Monthly Bills: Bills were reviewed to be submitted for payment approval at the Regular Meeting of January 27, 2020. Alderman Dell explained that approximately $15,000 of the IPRF (Illinois Public Risk Fund) grant money went to public works and that the balance of $3,000 was disbursed to the police department. Question was raised about furnace repairs and the use of numerous vendors. It was felt that one vendor and one point of contact should be responsible for all HVAC related matters.

New Business: None

Audience Comments: WSPY reporter, Jim Wyman, questioned an invoice for Art’s in the amount of $2,200.00. Response was the invoice was for $50.00 gift certificates to staff for Christmas. He also questioned an invoice from Randy Erickson in the amount of $175.00. It was explained that Randy Erickson is a licensed plumber employed as a contractor for inspections. The City does not have a licensed plumber. An invoice from Midwestern Concrete was questioned in the amount of $12,680.00 for sidewalk repair and asked how repairs could be made in the winter. Explanation was work was completed months ago, and vendor is now invoicing the City. Mr. Wyman asked if $385,000.00 was paid to the police pension. Response was yes. Lastly, he questioned an invoice to Jim Goellner for tree(s) removal in the amount of $5,850.00. He asked why the city does not do tree removal. Response was if the tree is fairly large, the City contracts for removal.

Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Committee, motion made by Alderman Dell, and seconded by Alderman Kreinbrink, to adjourn at 8:50 PM. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
