The second round of collected real estate taxes was distributed in DeKalb County by the treasurer's office on June 26.
Approximately $229,607,685 in real estate taxes is due for collection by Dekalb County Treasurer Christine Johnson’s office. Of that amount, approximately $120,814,603, or 52.6% of the total amount due, has already been collected and distributed throughout the county, a release issued on the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce website said.
“By law the first tax distribution is not required to be made until within 30 days after the first installment due date, which would be the first week in July," Johnson said in the release issued by the Chamber. "We have done two distributions prior to the time the first one is required by law. We are hopeful that these early distributions will assist the taxing districts, especially the school districts, with their cash flow."
The treasurer's office distributed allocations to DeKalb County and Forest Preserve District, townships and township road and bridge districts, libraries, cities and villages, fire districts, park districts, school districts, community colleges, TIF districts, and drainage districts.
School districts in the county received the most from the real estate tax distributions with approximately $72.6 million, and the county itself and the Forest Preserve District received $13.29 million from the distributions, the release issued on the Chamber website said. Cities and villages received approximately $8.38 million, community colleges were distributed $7.29 million, townships and township road and bridge districts were given $4.96 million, park districts received $4.61 million, TIF districts were granted $4.26 million, fire districts were allocated $2.67 million, libraries received $2.67 million, and drainage districts were given approximately $124,193.
