DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Merit Commission met July 15.

Here is the agenda provided by the commission:

The Merit Commission met in the County Legislative Center.

Commissioners present at the meeting were: Chairman Gene Lane, Vice Chairman Todd Walker and Secretary, Anita Turner. Also present was Sheriff Roger Scott.

Chairman Lane called the meeting to order at 5:11 p.m.

I. Approval of Minutes

Minutes from the previous meeting held 11/20/2019 had been previously reviewed by

Commissioners. Chairman Lane called for approval of those minutes. Motion for approval was by Gene Lane, and seconded by Anita Turner. Unanimous voice vote for approval followed.

II. Public Comment

Though it was an open public meeting, no audience was present. III. Future Divisional Testing Schedules

The Commission and the Sheriff discussed the upcoming Communication testing to begin sometime in late August through September? This testing might include a written exam, a computer test and an oral exam by the commission.

The Sheriff also express the need to have a Corrections exam sometime in the late fall once we start with the Communications recruitment.

IV. National Testing Network Info.

The Sheriff brought forward a testing option provided by an outside vender. The commission discussed it in length. Though it has some merit, the commission decided to hold on the option at this

time. Commissioner Walker was going to do a survey and also provide the Sheriff with some recruitment options to assist in our upcoming advertisements.

V. Lateral Transfer

The Sheriff discuss an option for a lateral transfer request. The Sheriff spoke about the merit of the transfer and the commission expressed an interest in moving forward with a transfer. If the Sheriff would like to move forward the commission will reconvene for a final vote.

There was no old business to consider

There was no new business to consider There was no further business.

Chairman Lane called for a motion to adjourn at 6:22. Anita Turner made the motion which was seconded by Todd Walker. On a unanimous voice vote the meeting was adjourned.
