Republican U.S. House candidate Catalina Lauf recently shared her perspective on political term limits, explaining that long political terms serve no purpose if issues go unresolved.

In an appearance on the Pomp Podcast, Lauf said she believes that regardless of a lawmaker’s political affiliation, term length should be determined based on the solutions the politician is addressing and resolving as opposed to how many years of political experience he or she has garnered.

Lauf will be running in next year's Republican primary for the seat currently held by Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Rockford).

“It's an issue that both people, people from all walks of life, independents, libertarians, Republicans and Democrats can come to terms with. But the problem why I think it has never been solved is because neither side has wanted to solve it,” Lauf said.

She explained that young candidates should also be considered as they may offer more effective solutions to current issues, such as student debt, technological advancements and pollution.

“We have a lot of people now, millennials, creating billion-dollar companies, right? They are successful,” Lauf said. “We have new ideas, we are innovators and a lot of that is a generational thing. Not to say that other generations haven't been able to do that. But we have a lot to offer.”

Lauf was appointed by former President Donald Trump to an advisory post with the U.S Department of Commerce. Before that, she worked for car service company Uber, obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Miami University of Ohio, and her associate’s degree from McHenry County College.

“If we actually ran our government like a business, if we actually ran things efficiently, I think a lot of our problems would be solved,” Lauf said. “And I think we'd be able to come together a lot more as a country as well and actually say, look, let's talk about these things in a thoughtful way.”
