In a May 20 Facebook post, Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) gave a rundown of legislative activity, including legislation for entrepreneurs.

"Young adult entrepreneurs will have an easier time starting and operating new businesses, thanks to legislation sponsored by Senate Republicans and signed into law by the Governor," Syverson posted.

In his week in review, Syverson highlighted Senate Bill 2984, which allows "youth entrepreneurs" to be assisted at Entrepreneurship Assistance Centers. Entrepreneurship Assistance Centers offer guidance to young business owners, providing them with knowledge and mentorship, as well as access to capital and resources.

The bill passed the Senate on Feb. 16, the House on March 30 and was signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on May 13.

Sen. Darren Fowler (R-Harrisburg) was also involved with this bill as a sponsor in the Senate. "The events of the past two years have left their mark on our state's economy, which is not very business-friendly right now. It can be especially tough for young people looking to start their own businesses," Fowler said. "Helping youth entrepreneurs get started and succeed will boost local and state economies, generate jobs and provide revenues for communities. This layer of support will help youth entrepreneurs transition into self-employment and increase the sustainability of their businesses."
