In an April 10 Facebook post, Rep. Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) shared information about the 31st annual Mayors' Memorial Day Breakfast.
“It is my honor to serve as a co-sponsor and invite you to participate in a long-standing tradition, the 2023 Mayors' Memorial Day Breakfast,” he wrote.
In his Facebook post, Keicher shared an image of a form to RSVP, but noted that walk-ins would be welcome. It is $10 to RSVP with the form. The breakfast will be held at the DeKalb Elks Lodge between 6:45 and 9 a.m. The Elks Lodge is at 209 S. Annie Glidden Road, in DeKalb.
Keicher has been busy. On April 4, he joined Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Northern Illinois University President Dr. Lisa Freeman, and other state and local leaders to highlight investments in higher education, including MAP grants, the Monetary Award Program.
“As the child of a single mother who waited tables to keep a roof over our head, the MAP grants I received while attending Northern Illinois University provided stable funding to allow generational change for my family and me. The MAP Grant Program is an investment that has the power to change long-term outcomes, and our attention to funding for colleges and universities is what allows us to continue offering the promise of a better future to families in Illinois.”
On April 11, Keicher announced that the Illinois House of Representatives unanimously approved a resolution Keicher sponsored. House Resolution 92 declares April of 2023 as Prescribed Burning Awareness Month in Illinois. “Prescribed burning programs throughout our state play a valuable role in preserving our natural habitats. This traditional method of land management not only provides ecological support, but also ensures long-term economic benefits,” said Keicher. “I want to thank the Nature Conservancy for their advocacy, as well as their work at sites like the Nachusa Grasslands, which is a perfect example of the benefits of prescribed burning.”
Keicher was first elected to the Illinois House in 2018. His legislative experience includes serving on the Appropriations-Higher Education, and Immigration & Human Rights committees. Keicher resides in DeKalb.
