City of Naperville SECA Commission met Nov. 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

A. CALL TO ORDER:

Chairwoman Brodhead called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m.

B. ROLL CALL:

Present 12 - Judith Brodhead, Vasavi Chakka, Nancy Chen, Natalia Dagenhart, Rich Gannon, Shannon Greene Robb, Allison Longenbaugh, Tom Miers, Kader Sakkaria, David Scriven-Young, Lai So, and Arthur Zards

Also present - Student Representative, Rafella Giaquinto and City Clerk, Dawn Portner

C. PUBLIC FORUM:

No speakers for Public Forum

D. OLD BUSINESS:

1. Approve the SECA Commission meeting minutes of September 20, 2023

SECA Chairwoman Brodhead requested the minutes be amended to reflect she was not present at the September 20, 2023 meeting. Commissioner Tom Miers was the Acting Chair.

Commissioner Scriven-Young made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Chen, to approve the SECA Commission meeting minutes of September 20, 2023 as amended. The motion carried by the following vote:

Aye: 10 - Brodhead, Chakka, Chen, Dagenhart, Gannon, Greene Robb, Longenbaugh, Miers, Sakkaria, Scriven-Young, So, and Zards

E. NEW BUSINESS:

1. Welcome new SECA Commissioners and Student Representatives

Chairwoman Brodhead welcomed and introduced the new SECA Commissioners, Lai So, Kadar Sakkaria and Student Commissioner Rafella Giaquinto. Student Commissioner Devina Das could not attend the meeting today.

2. Receive public comment on the CY24 SECA Grant Fund applications Receive public comment on the CY24 SECA Grant Fund applications.

Commissioners asked questions of the speakers regarding events, initiatives, and application details.

Portner stated the Individual Commissioners Worksheets are due by Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Chairwoman Brodhead announced the next SECA Commission meeting will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Rooms A&B. The Commission will be reviewing individual funding recommendations and arriving at a unified recommendation per applicant.

New Business

2024 SECA Commission Meeting Schedule

Portner announced that the Commission will continue to meet on the third Wednesday of each month as they did in 2023 and that the calendar will be ready for approval at the December 7, 2023 meeting.

SECA Boot Camp

Commissioner Zards gave a brief overview of the SECA Boot Camp schedule for Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Municipal Center. He explained that topics will include, but not limited to, how to obtain sponsorships, event logistics, marketing ideas, grant writing, and common mistakes when putting together an event, project, or program.

F. ADJOURNMENT:

Commissioner Miers made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Chakka, to adjourn the SECA Commission meeting at 11:07am. The motion carried by a voice vote.
