City of Genoa City Council met March 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Pro Tem Pulley called the Public Hearing on the proposed lead service line replacement project to order at 7:03pm followed by roll call. Alderman Wesner, Pulley, Freund, Winter, Braheny, Hughes and Roca were present. Alderman Stage was absent, along with Mayor Brust. Quorum present.

Darin Stykel of Fehr Graham came before the council and explained that the public hearing is a public preliminary environmental impact determination meeting along with a summary on the lead service line replacement project that they have been working on.

Stykel then went on to explain what they plan on doing within Genoa, including replacing about 173 lead service lines within the community with the potential of up to 20 more. He also informed the council of what the total estimated costs would be for the entire project and the ways that the project could be funded if the city does not receive any grant funds.

Gordon Jones, resident of Genoa, asked if the project will cost the residents any money and where the responsibility stops. Public Works Director Lucas Smith answered explaining that the project and how it is done will vary based on whether the city gets additional funding so as to not put too much responsibility on the residents. Chuck Cravatta, who is a resident and owns many rental properties within Genoa, asked how much it costs for the lead service line to be replaced on one home to which Stykel answered about ten to twelve thousand dollars. There were no other comments from the public or council.

Alderman Wesner made a motion to close the public hearing, seconded by Alderman Freund. Voice vote was taken, all voted yes. Public hearing adjourned at 7:14pm.
