State Representative Jeff Keicher (IL) | Representative Jeff Keicher (R) 70th District
Last Friday in the Illinois House of Representatives saw the deadline for bills to advance through the committee process, but unfortunately, the majority party canceled the session, leaving over a thousand bills unheard. State Representative Keicher expressed disappointment, stating, "It’s quite disheartening that the legislation allowed to advance was done so in such a blatantly partisan way."
Despite the challenges, Keicher shared some positive news, mentioning, "Fortunately, three pieces of legislation I filed were given hearings and advanced to the House floor last week." These bills aim to support victims of human trafficking, address roadside trash issues, and eliminate burdensome requirements for senior citizen drivers.
One of the bills discussed aims to protect victims of human trafficking, with Keicher emphasizing, "Victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, especially children, represent our most vulnerable, and we need to do everything we can to help them through their recovery process."
Another bill focuses on senior drivers, with Keicher highlighting, "In an 8-1 decision last week, Illinois House Transportation: Vehicles and Safety Committee members approved my legislation that would stop requiring people aged 79 and up to take driving tests when renewing their licenses, even if they have a clean driving record."
In addition to legislative updates, Keicher also engaged in community events, such as hosting an Agriculture Roundtable and participating in the Illinois YMCA Youth & Government program, where he interacted with local students interested in leadership and public policy.
Keicher's commitment to addressing pressing issues and engaging with the community reflects his dedication as a State Representative. He encourages constituents to reach out with questions or feedback, emphasizing his commitment to serving the district.
