Illinois State Representative Keicher recently provided an update on various legislative matters and upcoming events in the 70th District. Among the highlights of his update are the successful passage of several bills in the House, as well as calls for action on important issues affecting the community.

Following the recent legislative activities in the Illinois House of Representatives, Representative Keicher expressed his satisfaction with the passage of important bills, including those addressing human trafficking and roadside trash issues. Reflecting on the passage of House Bill 5465, which supports child victims of human trafficking, Keicher stated, "Victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, especially children, represent our most vulnerable, and we need to do everything we can to help them through their recovery process." The bill aims to make it easier for child victims to have their records expunged or sealed. Keicher also highlighted the unanimous support for House Bill 4848, which addresses the problem of windblown trash, stating, "Now that the bill has passed through the House unanimously, I’m hopeful it will receive a similarly high level of support in the State Senate."

In addition to these legislative successes, Keicher also emphasized the importance of raising awareness about Scott's Law, a critical roadway safety regulation. Regarding the passage of a bill to improve Scott's Law awareness, Keicher remarked, "Scott’s Law is a critical roadway safety law that requires drivers to slow down and move over when passing any vehicle with hazard lights flashing on the side of the road."

Furthermore, Keicher highlighted his efforts to address ageist requirements for senior drivers, expressing disappointment that his legislation on this matter was not called for a vote. He mentioned, "Despite having more than three dozen bipartisan co-sponsors, my legislation to end the ageist requirement for senior drivers to retake the driving test when they renew their license was not called for a vote."

The update also included information on other noteworthy bills that passed the House, such as the Junk Fee Ban Act, legislation to expand insurance coverage for breast cancer screening, and a bill to improve road safety by requiring drivers to yield the right-of-way in certain situations.

Keicher also shared details about upcoming events, including an ICash event for constituents to claim unclaimed funds held by the State Treasurer's Office, as well as a Senior Fraud Protection Event aimed at educating seniors on how to avoid scams.

In conclusion, Representative Keicher expressed his commitment to serving the community and encouraged constituents to reach out with any questions or concerns.
