A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Sycamore Finance Department regarding sales tax records on October 25, 2024. The request was made by us at DeKalb Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The records requested under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, are specifically related to sales tax collected from retailers since January 1, 204. We have asked for these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and analysis.
The specific fields requested include the amount of sales tax collected from retailers each month versus what was projected for that period. Additionally, we've asked for data on the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month.
Furthermore, we have requested the names of each retailer and their gross retail sales reported each month. This information is crucial in understanding the financial landscape of retail businesses in Sycamore and how they contribute to local government revenue through sales tax.
