This month, the Illinois General Assembly resumed its session, which is set to conclude in May. During this period, legislators are predominantly based in Springfield, making it challenging for residents to engage with the legislative process. However, there are several ways for individuals to stay involved.

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie emphasized the importance of public participation: “Your voice matters, and your participation makes all the difference,” he stated. “When constituents take the time to learn the process, share their perspectives, and hold their representatives accountable, democracy thrives. Together, we can ensure that every voice is heard, and every concern is addressed.”

Residents are encouraged to communicate with their legislators through various means. Contact information such as email addresses and office locations can be found on ilga.gov/house. Both district and Springfield offices have staff who handle communications from residents and report back to the officials.

Additionally, constituents can use a legislator’s government social media and website for updates on sessions, legislation, and events. These platforms provide information about legislative activities and resources available in their districts.

The Illinois General Assembly (ILGA) website offers live streaming of legislative sessions. This resource allows citizens to watch proceedings on the House floor and access comprehensive information about bills, committees, legislators, audio-visual content related to legislative processes.

For those looking for more engagement options:

- Residents can find their local, state, and national elected officials by using tools provided by the State Board of Elections.

- Resources explaining witness slips or how to file them are accessible through specified links.

- Recordings of past sessions can be viewed via designated links for both House and Senate sessions.
