Sandwich generated nearly $158K in lottery ticket sales in July

Sandwich, Ill. had the 372th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of July 2016, down 66 spots from its June ranking, according to sales records obtained by the DeKalb Times.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Sandwich was $21.42, and the city generated $157,808 in net sales from its 10 lottery retailers in July 2016, compared to $166,191 in July 2015.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in July 2016 was $19,374.

Sandwich is in DeKalb County and has a population of 7,366, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Neighboring municipalities are Plano, Somonauk and Lake Holiday.

Sandwich's top lottery retailer was a Shell gas station located at 110 N Main St.

The gas station generated 37 percent of Sandwich's July 2016 lottery ticket sales and 5 percent of the $1.4 million in sales in DeKalb County that month.

In 2015, the five cities with the highest per capita lottery revenue in DeKalb County were Shabbona, Somonauk, Kirkland, Sandwich and Sycamore.

The five cities with the highest per capita lottery revenue in the state were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top-five cities in the state generated $5,4 million in net sales, amounting to 1 percent of the state's $2.7 billion in net sales in 2015.
