Sycamore FD responds to 69 fires in 2017

Sycamore Fire Department responded to 247 calls in 2017 - 11.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Sycamore included 69 fires - 33 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 24 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $419,925 in fire loss - or about $6,086 per fire.

The department also received 174 false calls, including seven malicious calls and 167 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Sycamore Fire Department had an annual budget of $320,514 in 2017.

The Sycamore Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 29 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $1,085,269 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $16,957 for every fire in 2016.
