Greater Sycamore Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 9.

The comedy-thriller, Deathtrap, makes its way to Stage Coach Theatre in DeKalb as its summer season continues. Deathtrap, written by Ira Levin, revolves around the action after struggling playwright Sidney Bruhl, devises a plan to steal a sure-fire Broadway hit thriller from a student in a seminar he has been conducting.Deathtrap is directed by first-time director Maria L. P. Boynton. The cast features Denny Boynton (The Game’s Afoot), Patrick Deering (Sugar), Cheri Heinz (Into The Woods), joan kole (November) and Chris Porterfield (Twelve Angry Jurors).

Deathtrap has been an audience favorite since it opened on Broadway in 1978. As with many mysteries, intermission promises to be filled with chatter as the audience become amateur sleuths and discuss what they believe will happen next. Boynton says she hopes the production makes the audience wonder what is going to happen next. “I want them to laugh, be startled, get sideswiped by unexpected plot twists, and, ultimately, nod knowingly and enjoy the moment when the last puzzle piece falls into place.”

With so many twists and turns, cast member Deering, who plays Sidney Bruhl, said during rehearsals, the cast occasionally needed to talk through what audiences would already know up to that point so they didn’t get ahead of themselves, saying, “Audiences will definitely need to pay attention.” Boynton added, “Deathtrap is all about nuance and foreshadowing.”

For joan kole, who plays psychic Helga ten Dorp, “The most rewarding things for me (being part of the production) are seeing how the plot unravels and watching fellow actors perform.” And with a cast of five seasoned actors, the performances should be engaging and strong.

Performances for Deathtrap are August 16th through August 18th and August 24th through August 25th with a curtain time of 7:30, along with Sunday matinees on August 19th and August 26th with a curtain time of 2:00. Tickets are $15 each or $13 for seniors and children age 13 and under.
