Dekalb Park District recently issued the following announcement.
Date: October 20, 2018
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: Hallgren Park (701 Franklin St, DeKalb)
DeKalb County Master Gardeners is sponsoring a community Open House on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Hallgren Park Gardens. Hallgren Park is located at 7th and Franklin Streets in DeKalb.
The Open House includes informal tours of the gardens and a discussion of future plans for the beds. As part of the event, Master Gardeners will be offering plant divisions of many of the garden's perennials to members of the public. Some of the perennials available include cone flowers, spiderwort, campanula, fall blooming anemones blackberry lilies, and some other natives.
The gardens consist of 7 perennial beds, a rose berm and an evergreen berm, and are located within the overall Hallgren Park. The garden beds and the rose berm are currently in a transition phase with an emphasis of providing more native and pollinator plants. In addition, the DeKalb Park District is in the process of renovating and reseeding the outer ring of the garden bed area.
DeKalb County Master Gardeners have been working with the gardens in cooperation with the DeKalb Park District since 2003.
Please contact the University of Illinois Extension office at 815-758-8194 with any questions regarding this event.
