AMERICAN RED CROSS: Hurricane Michael: Red Cross Visits Devastated Neighborhoods

Z9patrickgolden

American Red Cross recently issued the following announcement.

The Red Cross is working around the clock with our partners to get help to where it’s most needed, and we’re reaching more neighborhoods each day. We’re working with partners like the National Guard to move volunteers and supplies, and to support dozens of shelters where people can find comfort and refuge.

Many roads remain impassable and getting help into some areas will be challenging for some time. In Panama City, Red Cross emergency vehicles are able to access some neighborhoods to provide hot meals, water, and snacks to residents who are still without electrical power or water service due to damage caused by the storm.

The food was prepared at a mobile kitchen operated by Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and delivered to residents, both in shelters and homes, by Red Cross workers. People receiving the meals repeatedly expressed their thanks in this city where most grocery stores and restaurants are still closed due to storm damage and lack of utility services.

About the American Red Cross:

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
