City of Dekalb Taylor Municipal Airport Advisory Board met May 28.

Chairman Bob Owens called the meeting to order at 7:03pm.

Chairman Bob Owens asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of Memorial Day.

NEW BUSINESS —
Discussion of Airport Branding and the Airport Logo – Airport Manager Tom Cleveland talked about who are we and what do we want the airport to become. The airport serves the entire county. Many Board members said a regional airport. Tom asked the Airport Advisory Board (AAB) to start thinking about the question. Mr. Jack Penning with Volaire Aviation, our airport consultant, will be discussing the new marketing plan at the July 23, 2019 AAB meeting.
Discussion of the Airport Logo – Airport Manager Tom Cleveland had four draft airport logo’s using the names DeKalb Regional Airport at Taylor Field and DeKalb Executive Airport at Taylor for examples. The AAB was asked to think about the name and logo’s and discuss them at the next meeting. Airport Manager Cleveland said the four logos where just examples and nothing that the airport was going to use.
Discussion of the Redesign of the City/Airport Website – Jason Blumenthal from the City Manager’s Office and the person updating the airport website discussed the process with the AAB. The AAB to Jason what they thought should be changed for the update. Jason looked at other airport websites and discussed a few he liked with the AAB. Airport website optimization was discussed. The update will continue. A print-out of the updated website will be presented and discussed at the June 25, 2019 AAB meeting.
AIRPORT MANAGERS REPORT-
A proclamation was read by Mayor Jerry Smith at the May 28th City Council meeting proclaiming the June is General Aviation month.
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is having their Young Eagles Day on June 1. EAA pilots donate their time and aircraft to take kids from 8 to 17 years old up for a free airplanes ride.
The EAA is having their annual Fly-In Drive-In Pancake Breakfast on June 2nd in the main hangar.
Zip car was discussed for the airport.
Mayor Jerry Smith, Assistant City Manager Raymond Munch and Airport Manager Tom Cleveland had a meeting with Congresswoman Underwood to discuss2019funding for large airport project that are coming up in the next couple of years. It was a very productive meeting.
DeKalb County Health Department will be having a household hazardous waste return day on the ramp at the corner of Peace Road and Pleasant Street on June 8th.
The airport manager reported he had no luck looking for a cockpit on a trailer or a simulator that they can take to special events around the area to promote the airport and aviation.
The City hired a part time airport maintenance employee this month. Mr. Jack Penning will be here in July to discuss the new Marketing Plan.
The Hot Air Balloon Festival, Balloons, Brews and Blues event will take place on the airport on June 22, 2019 from 3pm – 9pm.
