City of Dekalb Airport Advisory Board met Oct. 22.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Chairman Bob Owens called the meeting to order at 7:03pm.

Roll Call: Bob Owens, Bernie Pupino, Melissa Gallagher, Paul Borek and Anthony Faivre.

Absent: Jim Rhoades, Matt Duffy and Gary Hanson.

Guests: Bill Nicklas and Any Raih

OLD BUSINESS — None

NEW BUSINESS —

Discussion of Airport Marketing and Events – The Airport Advisory Board (AAB) discussed the new airport/fuel marketing postcard that will be distributed at a major National Business Aviation Association conference in 2020. A fuel discount coin/medallion for DeKalb Airport was also discussed as a promotional item that could be given to customers for future fuel discounts. Further discussion on the design is needed. Optimizing the new airport website, which will be launched on November 7th, and social media for the airport were also discussed.

Discussion was held on the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce informational videos. These videos are done by community and business leaders to get the word out about community and business improvements. Airport video topics such as economic development, history, why the airport is so beneficial to the community, and business aviation facts were brought up.

Airport events such as a 5K run on the runway, Veterans events, Experimental Aircraft Association - Young Eagles day, Fly-In Drive-In Pancake Breakfast, Balloon Fest, hangar dances, and discovery flights were brought up as events that would get the entire community involved with the airport.

AIRPORT MANAGERS REPORT-

Airport Manager Tom Cleveland asked City Manager Bill Nicklas to discuss with the AAB, the hiring of the Daley Policy Group, a lobbying group in Washington DC. The Daley Policy Group will assist City officials with securing federal money for our large runway overlay project.

Ms. Daley has been employed by the City of DeKalb in the past to help secure federal funding for the City and the airport. The Daley Policy Group has a 1-year contract.

Mayor Jerry Smith went to Washington DC to discuss funding for City and airport projects. Mayor Smith had a very positive meeting with the FAA about future airport projects.

The Illinois Capital Bill was discussed. Airports can receive funding for lower priority projects and airport equipment at a 90% State and 10% Local funding share.

Fuel sales are slow in October.

The Transportation Improvement Plan will be presented to the FAA and IDOT tomorrow. There will be a Planning and Zoning meeting at the airport on October 24, 2019.

There will be a DeKalb Kiwanis meeting on November 25th at the airport. The topic will be the TDR-1 World War II drone that was built in DeKalb By the Navy and Wurlitzer. Roger Keys, the local TDR-1 expert, will be giving the presentation.

On December 11, the DeKalb Leadership Academy will be returning to the DeKalb Airport to have a day of learning/networking sessions.
