Community Outreach Building

Meeting started at 7:00 pm with President Celeste Latham presiding, she led us in the pledge of allegiance.

Board Members Present: President Celeste Latham, Vice-President Chuck Fish, Secretary Luz Maria Gilkey and Treasurer Bob Coulter.

Employees Present: Tammy Anderson, Luz Maria Gilkey, Cindy Childress, Tim Stubinger and Jessica Morganegg.

New in Attendance: Gerry Drake VFW Post 578Sycamore Delegate.

Public Comment: None.

Meeting Minutes: October 7, 2019 minutes were reviewed. Motion was made by Mike Embrey to accept the minutes as read, and seconded by Don Jones - Motion passed unanimously

Treasurers Report: Treasurer Bob Coulter reported a balance of $5,283.30 no additional income or expenditures. Balance Oct 31, 2019 $5,283.30. Motion was made by Dondones to accept the Treasureř s.report, seconded by Bob Bend subject to audit. Motion passed.

Superintendents' Report: The Commission helped 14. Veterans and their families with Shelter Assistance totaling $5,575.00. There were 39 Veterans transported on 24 trips to the VA Medical Centers and Compensation & Pension (C&P) appointments, with the Drivers' donating 175:45 hours with 4398 miles driven. Drivers Per Diem was $460.00. One driver prefers not to get paid. Fuel cost was $440.51 and Fuel (gallons) 2034Monthly Retro amount of $20,149.00 was collected with $17,515.00 of monthly payments for Veterans Total year to date $1,122.148.00. Total Employee Activity was approximately 1097. in actions The October expenses totaled $39,093.04. Motion was made by Jim Cox to pay monthly bills - seconded by Don Jones. Committee Report: Tim reported Hines has Healthy eating this month. Flu shots at Sandwich 12th and 21st nurse has not received flu shotuntil she hearsiábout how well it is, please spread the word come to outreach. Veteran Day Parade, Ceremony Free Lunch and Resource Fair see attached flyer.

New Business: Nomination to 2020 Commission Officer Positions will reopen next month

For the Good of the Commission: Nov 9 Noon to 4 Bands playing at Sandwich VFW. Nov 16 4:30 to 7pm Turkey Dinner at Sandwich VFW. Nov. 9th 7pm Genoa American Legion 100yr celebration. Marine Corp Birthday celebration 7pm Home Town Bar & Grill Lincoln Highway. The Honor Guard is being offered $3,500 from the Elk DeKalb Elks Club toward the purchase of Uniforms. If you would personally like to make a donation or know of a business, club or organization that would like to donate please reach out to Vice Commander Manuel Olalde, 630-768-0872 and he will assist you. Portillo's is also holding a Fundraiser for the Honor Guard on the 11th from Spm to 8pm. This event is under the guidance of Vice Commander Olalde. Veterans Day Service at Memorial Park on the 11th at 11am please bring a friend with you. 11:11am there will be dual ceremonies at the Freedom Cock on First and Lincoln hosted by the DeKalb American Legion, Honor Guard, And at the American Flag Pole on the Campus of Northern Illinois University (near Altgeld Hall), Host by the NIU Veterans Club. Speakers and Bugler. Sweats for troops 3,000 lbs. where collected last year see flyer attached deadline November 18. Michael Embrey mentioned they have two funerals this month. Couch Coins Band will be performing Sat 7pm at the American Legion Post #66 in DeKalb, find your dancing shoes and come have some fun. They play that Old Time Rock & Roll Stuff.

A DeKalb County Veteran received the French Legion of Honor, see the attached flyer-Celeste was able to go. See attached Fact Sheet on Social Security, Sycamore Veterans Home calendar and Malta Elementary Welcomes All Veterans to Attend Our All School Assembly on November 11th at 9am in Gymnasium and if you are coming let Luz Maria Gilkey know they will be presenting DCVAC with our yearly Ornaments for our tree and Veterans. Huntley middle school and Lincoln elementary are also welcoming Veterans on Veterans day.

The Court House Flags are now housed here at the COB under DCVAC care with DeKalb County Facilities Management responsible for display/removal.
