A COVID-19 task force formed by Stage Coach Players is hosting weekly fabric giveaways and food drives on Tuesdays at its theater in DeKalb, the organization said in late May.
Its collection drive on Tuesday, June 9 will benefit the Sycamore Food Pantry based at the Sycamore United Methodist Church, the community theater posted to its Facebook page. The drive is from 4-6 p.m. at 126 S. Fifth St., DeKalb, which is at the theater's parking lot.
“It’s wonderful to see people from all over coming to get fabrics and also then bringing food,” task force member Jan Kuntz told Northern Public Radio for its May 20 report. “So it’s not just the Stage Coach Players, it’s the community. And you know, we’re community theater, so that’s what we’re all about.”
Stage Coach Players has suspended its season due to the coronavirus and has now been focusing on finding ways to give back to the community, Northern Public Radio reported. The fabric giveaways and food drives will both continue to take place until the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
The theater has an inventory of cotton fabric that people can use to make masks to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Northern Public Radio reported. Besides providing fabrics each week, the group collects at least a car-full of food that is donated to local food pantries.
