Sycamore FD responds to 61 fires in 2018

Sycamore Fire District responded to 244 calls in 2018 - 1.2 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Sycamore included 61 fires - 37 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $504,400 in fire loss - or about $8,269 per fire.

The department also received 181 false calls, including one malicious call and 180 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Sycamore Fire District had an annual budget of $282,139 in 2018.

The Sycamore Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 29 active employees and 20 retired or inactive employees, was $431,966 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,260 for every fire in 2017.
