City Dekalb issued the following announcement on Mar. 4.
The DeKalb Illinois Fire Department is putting the old city hall to good use by conducting training there.
After the building was filled with theatrical smoke, crews practiced rescuing a downed firefighter. They had to search the second floor for a manikin, provide rescue air and then remove it to safety.
The training conducted last week was part of quarterly drills firefighters are required to conduct on SCBA full-respiratory protection.
The city block where the former city hall sits will be redeveloped this year. The building will be demolished and three new buildings of luxury apartments will be constructed.
