DeKalb County Sheriff’s Merit Commission met April 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order

Chairman Todd Walker called the meeting to order at 5:00 PM.

II. Roll Call

Commissioners present at the meeting were: Chairman Todd Walker, Commissioner Anita Turner, and Secretary Bryan Perry. Also present was Sheriff Roger Scott and Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan.

III. Approval of Agenda

Todd Walker called for the approval of the agenda. Anita Turner moved and Bryan Perry seconded. All voted Yes. Motion passed.

IV. Approval of Minutes

Minutes from the previous meeting held 02/01/2021 were reviewed by Commissioners. Chairman Todd Walker called for approval of those minutes. Motion for approval was made by Bryan Perry and seconded by Anita Turner. Motion passed.

V. Public Comment

Though it was an open public meeting, no audience was present.

VI. Old Business

There was no old business to consider.

VII. New Business

There was no new business to consider.

VIII. Future Communications Needs/Testing

Sheriff discussed the need for testing for Communications. Despite the fact we recently testing for Communications in January, this list has been exhausted. The Sheriff requested the test again be done through the National Testing Network with a pass/fail grade instead of a 70% score to pass. The Sheriff would also like to add a pass/fail typing test segment before candidates reach the interview with Merit Commissioners. It was decided to start advertising as soon as possible and testing will be in mid‐May. Final interview dates will be decided after the written/typing tests have taken place.

IX. Corrections Lieutenant Promotional Testing (Executive Session ‐Confidential Material) Chairman Walker asked for a motion to move to executive session at approximately 5:25PM. Anita Turner motioned; Bryan Perry seconded. All in favor, motion passed.

Chairman Walker asked for a motion to reconvene into regular session at approximately 6:00 PM. Anita Turner made the motion and Bryan Perry seconded. All in favor, motion passed.

Chairman Walker asked if there was a motion to deny the waiver request. Bryan Perry made the motion to deny the waiver. Anita Turner seconded the motion. No discussion, all were in favor. Motion passed to deny the waiver request.

X. Adjournment

With no further business to discuss Chairman Walker called for a motion to adjourn at 6:02 PM. Bryan Perry made the motion which was seconded by Anita turner. On a unanimous voice vote, the meeting was adjourned.
