DeKalb Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept. 20

Learning happens everywhere a child goes, but parents, grandparents and caregivers may not always know how to support that learning.

That is why Kishwaukee United Way and Sycamore Rotaract Club will create DeKalb County’s second outdoor interactive learning trail to help parents, grandparents and caregivers turn excursions into fun learning moments. The trail will be located right next to the parking lot, near the forest line outside of North Elementary school.

The Born Learning Trail is a series of interactive learning activities that any adult can play with young children. This trail is being sponsored and installed by Sycamore Rotaract Club. The service club will install the trail on September 25th and will celebrate the new trail with ribbon cutting Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 5:15PM.

The Born Learning Trail is designed to help adults interact with children to boost language and literacy development and help caregivers understand how to best support early learning in outdoor, everyday moments. BASICS DeKalb County will include their 5 basic icons on the North Elementary trail as well. Reiterating early learning as well as maximizing love & managing stress and exploring movement & play.

There are 10 signs throughout the Born Learning Trail, each including activities such as Look! Learn! Laugh! This sign encourages caregivers to pay attention to children in positive ways, building self-esteem.

Born Learning trails are just one of the ways that Kishwaukee United Way aims to support early childhood education. For more information about education initiatives with Kishwaukee United Way please contact Sheridan Threadgill at 779-255-1267.
