DeKalb Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Oct. 8

DeKalb County Treasurer Becky Springer’s office made the fifth distribution of DeKalb County real estate taxes on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Of the $235,144,560.35 to be collected, $226,113,504.12 has been collected and distributed to date. Springer said, “This amount represents 96.16% of the taxes to be collected. With this distribution, we are just slightly ahead of where we were last year at this time.”

This is the final distribution prior to the tax sale. The tax sale will be held on Monday, October 25, 2021. The balance of the taxes due will be collected through the tax sale process. Following the sale, the Treasurer’s Office will then make one final distribution of the balance of the taxes paid.

That distribution will also include interest earned by the Treasurer’s Office for the benefit of the taxing bodies while the funds were in the Treasurer’s custody. Since 1994, the Treasurer’s Office has earned and distributed to the taxing districts nearly $4 million in interest.

Of the $226,113,504.12 that has been distributed, $24,941,053.97 has been distributed to DeKalb County and Forest Preserve District, $9,009,937.48 has been distributed to townships and township road and bridge districts, $5,122,148.10 has been distributed to libraries, $15,813,968.00 has been distributed to cities and villages. Fire districts have received $4,758,103.88 and $8,970,085.00 has been distributed to park districts. School districts have received $136,075,026.86; community colleges have received $13,507,606.30; TIF districts have received $7,732,070.77; and drainage districts have received $183,503.76.
