Northern Illinois University issued the following announcement on Oct. 25

Northern Illinois University Athletics invites all friends, supporters and alumni to show their support for the Huskies' 17 sport programs and more than 400 student-athletes, along with NIU Recreation, Sport Clubs, Huskie Marching Band and Silverettes during Huskies Invest: A Week of Giving, which will run throughout the week of October 25-29.

Entering its fifth year, Huskies Invest has raised more than $1.3 million in support of NIU student-athletes. Unrestricted contributions, which directly benefit team travel and assist Olympic sport programs in addition to offsetting COVID-19 expenses, continue to be the primary focus of Huskies Invest. In addition, donations toward specific sports programs and facility projects remain critical to building the future of NIU Athletics.

Throughout the week, Huskies Invest will be showcased through the Huskie Athletic Fund, NIU sport programs and NIU Athletics' social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, with messaging focused on Huskie student-athlete stories. Huskies Invest has also been widely promoted on the NIU Weekly Show (link), and on NIU's Inside Huskie Football Radio Show (listen On Demand on The Varsity Network app) and on the Huskies' football game broadcasts.  

The annual fundraiser has become a staple of philanthropic efforts of the athletics department at NIU, which now also encompasses NIU Recreation and the Huskie Marching Band. This year, several facilities projects will also play a more prominent role as basketball locker rooms, new field turf, indoor tennis court remodels, dugouts and other initiatives have the capability to advance specific sports programs.  

"Huskies Invest has always been about supporting our student-athletes first and foremost," said NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier. "While this year is no different, several of our teams are competing at such a high level that we have a tremendous opportunity to move several of our initiatives forward. While we are still navigating through the effects of COVID-19, with the support of Huskie Nation, we can make significant progress on these projects through unrestricted giving, as well as address a number of facility enhancements. Everything counts, and every donation makes an impact on Huskie student-athletes."
