Five Huskies Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Five Northern Illinois University football student-athletes have been named to the 2022 College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District team as the organization released the 2022 football and volleyball teams Tuesday.

Offensive linemen Evan Buss (Kimberly, Wisc./Kimberly HS) and Pete Nygra (North Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg HS), fullback Brock Lampe (Kenosha, Wisc./Bradford HS), tight end Tristen Tewes (Pleasant Plains, Ill./Pleasant Plains HS) and linebacker Nick Rattin (Palatine, Ill./Fremd HS) all received Academic All-District honors.

Tewes, a fourth-year player who has caught 15 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns while playing in seven games in 2022, leads the way with a 3.885 GPA in environmental studies. Lampe, in his second year at NIU, is close behind with a 3.882 mark in health sciences/pre-physical therapy, followed by Buss, a third-year player who has taken over the starting job at left tackle over the last seven games. He carries a 3.808 GPA in mechanical engineering. Pete Nygra, a kinesiology major in his second season, who has been the Huskies' starter at center throughout the year, has a 3.792 GPA in kinesiology.

Nick Rattin, a key member of both the linebacking corps and special teams units throughout his four seasons with the Huskies, has made 39 tackles in 2022 with a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He has 183 career tackles in 43 games with nine tackles for loss. Rattin, who was a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy and the 2022 All State Good Works Team for his community service contributions, has a 3.529 GPA in finance.

In order to qualify for the Academic All-District teams, student-athletes must be starters or important reserves who have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. First-year players, including true freshmen and undergraduate transfers, are not eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at the institution.

CSC made changes to the Academic All-America Awards program for 2022-23 by raising the minimum grade point average to qualify from 3.30 to 3.50 with all eligible nominees who meet the criteria now earning All-District honors and becoming eligible for the Academic All-America ballot.
