CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) DeKalb County is hosting its first Advocate Training session of 2023! Do you have a passion for helping others? Are you comfortable working with children? If so, this role may be for you! CASA Advocates are trained community members who are appointed to one family at a time as the child(ren)’s advocate throughout their court process.
The children CASA serves are involved in the DeKalb County juvenile court through no fault of their own, but due to abuse or neglect by a parent or guardian. They have experienced trauma and need someone to be a stable, consistent adult int heir life. CASA volunteers visit the child(ren) on their case regularly and talk to others involved in the child’s life, such as foster parents and social service providers, to gather information about the child and their family. CASA Advocates make recommendations to the court on behalf of the child’s best interests, while giving them hope for a better future.
CASA is looking for volunteers from all backgrounds and walks of life; you do not need any specific training or education to apply. If you have about 10 hours a month to give, we encourage you to apply.
CASA’s Winter Advocate Training will be Tuesdays from February 21-March 21 from 5-8PM at the CASA office in Sycamore. To learn more or apply to volunteer, visit casadekalb.org/volunteer-info or call 815-895-2052. You can also join CASA staff at a Volunteer Info Session on January 24 from 5-6PM via Zoom to find out more. Register at casadekalb.org/volunteer-info.
