FOIA Request Sent to City of Dekalb Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Dekalb regarding unpaid parking violations on October 28, 2024. The request was made by DeKalb Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we at DeKalb Times requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, specifically seeking a list of all currently unpaid parking violations. The information sought includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date of the violation, and the total amount due.

As an organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to our readership. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

The request is part of our ongoing commitment to inform citizens about matters that directly affect them and their communities. We believe that shedding light on these issues will help foster a more informed and engaged citizenry.

We await a response from the City of Dekalb regarding this request and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
