The Illinois Flag Commission has chosen ten finalists for the state flag redesign contest. Public voting is set to commence in January. The commission members selected their favorite designs from nearly 5,000 submissions before their meeting on December 9, where they narrowed it down to ten.

Starting in January, residents can vote online at www.ilsos.gov/stateflag. Voters will choose from the new designs or three former flags: the current state flag, the 1918 Centennial Flag, and the 1968 Sesquicentennial Flag.

Following public voting, the commission will present its findings and recommendations to the Illinois General Assembly by April 1, 2025. The assembly members will decide whether to adopt a new flag, revert to a previous design, or keep the current one.

The flag designs eligible for public voting in January are available for viewing.
