Sycamore FD responds to 66 fires in 2016

Sycamore Fire Department responded to 221 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DeKalb Times.

The calls in Sycamore included 66 fires - 37 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 20 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $770,535 in fire loss - or about $11,675 per fire.

The department also received 155 false calls, including six malicious calls and 149 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Sycamore Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 29 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $1,085,269 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $16,443 for every fire in 2016.
