53 percent of applicants to Northern Illinois University were admitted for fall 2017

At Northern Illinois University, 84 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 50 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Dekalb enrolled 18,045 students in fall 2017, including 13,457 in undergraduate and 4,588 in graduate programs, data shows. 12.8 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

95 percent of undergraduates are residents of Illinois, and 5 percent are residents of other states.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (55 percent) and Hispanic or Latino (18 percent).

The school admitted 53 percent of the 14,641 students who applied for fall 2017. Of those who were admitted, 24 percent enrolled.
