Norma Esther (Rex) Norling, 86 years old, died January 22, 2019 at her home in Sandwich, Illinois. She was born in Sandwich, Illinois on June 16, 1932 to Esther C. (Peterson) Rex and Lewis B. Rex.
Norma graduated from Sandwich Township High School in 1950 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois State Teachers College in 1953. While attending Northern, Norma met Jack E. Norling. Norma and Jack were married on December 26, 1953 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sandwich, Illinois.
Norma taught kindergarten or first grade in Sycamore and Sandwich, Illinois for 15 years. She then became a piano teacher, giving lessons in the piano studio in her home. After Jack’s death, she worked at Rex Agency, Inc. for several years. Norma served for 51 years in the Music Ministry of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sandwich, Illinois.
Norma was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sandwich, Illinois, Sandwich Lions Club, Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, several music organizations, and worked at the Sandwich Fair for many years.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Jack E. Norling in 1991, her parents Esther and Lewis Rex, her stepmother Elsie A. Rex, her brother Lewis John Rex, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Norma’s sister, Nancy Lou Rex, and several cousins survive her. Through marriage her nephew Scott Norling and her niece Susan Miller and Susan’s children and grandchildren survive Norma.
Visitation for Norma (Rex) Norling will be held at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home at 606 East Arnold Road, Sandwich, Illinois on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The funeral service for Norma will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1022 North Main Street, Sandwich, Illinois 60548, with Reverend Wayne Derber officiatibg. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery Sandwich, IL.
