The price of local government in 2017: City of Dekalb

The City of Dekalb budget was $139.55 million for its 2017 fiscal year.

That's an increase of 60 percent from 2016, when the city spent $87.20 million.

Dekalb has a population of 44,030.

Since 2001, the City of Dekalb budget has grown by 87.9 percent, from $74.27 million. The city population has grown 12.8 percent over the same period, from 39,018.

Salaries accounted for 22.3 percent of city spending in 2017. Dekalb property taxpayers paid $31.09 million for 200 full-time employees and 67 part-time employees.
