Former state university employee Sklar paid in $13K to pension fund, could collect $570K in retirement

Former state university employee Cheryl Sklar, who retired in October 2016, saved $12,627 toward a pension over 5 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Sklar would collect as much as $570,288, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes DeKalb Times.

The projection assumes Sklar received $11,987 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Sklar will have already received $24,334 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
