Former state school employee Pitts Grigsby paid in $11K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $236K in retirement

Former state school employee Wanda Pitts Grigsby, who retired in July 2017, saved $11,072 toward a pension over 2 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Pitts Grigsby would collect as much as $235,783, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes DeKalb Times.

The projection assumes Pitts Grigsby received $4,956 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Pitts Grigsby will have already received $15,319 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
