Brayden Patton Named to Rimington Trophy Watch List

18

Northern Illinois University issued the following announcement on July 23

Northern Illinois University senior center Brayden Patton is one of just 40 Football Bowl Subdivision players named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List today by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which sponsors the annual award presented to the most outstanding center in the country.

Patton, a native of Elletsville, Ind., has started 18 consecutive games for NIU, including the last nine at center. One of six NIU offensive players to start all six games in 2020, the Huskie senior moved from guard to center in the final three games of the 2019 season.

The Edgewood High School product made his first career start at center in a 31-28 at Toledo on Nov. 13, 2019. He garnered third-team All-MAC honors a year ago and a member of the Academic All-MAC Football Team.

Patton and Toledo's Bryce Harris are the only representatives from the Mid-American Conference on the 40-man list.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Football Subdivision (FBS). This year, the Rimington Trophy committee teamed with Pro Football Focus to narrow its list of nominees.

The second Huskie to be placed on a preseason watch list, Patton joins tailback Harrison Waylee, who was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List on Wednesday. The Huskie freshman led the Huskies in rushing last season with 456 yards on 107 carries in six games.

NIU opens the season at Georgia Tech on September 4 before welcoming fans back to the stands at full capacity in Huskie Stadium beginning with the home opener versus Wyoming on September 11. Kickoff for the game is at 12:30 p.m. (CT) and the game will honor First Responders and Health Care Heroes, while also serving as a Welcome Back Fans celebration.

Season tickets for NIU's complete six-game home schedule remain on sale with season ticket prices as low as $85. Purchase a minimum of four tickets for all six games via the Family Pack for just $90 per ticket (in sections B and F) or $66 per ticket (in sections A and G). Three-game or four-game mini-plans are also available with Mission's 3-Game Mini-Plan priced at $79 (including processing), while Victor E.'s 4-Game Mini-Plan is $107.
