City of De Kalb issued the following announcement on Oct. 22
The City of DeKalb is considering a request to allow a solar farm at DeKalb Airport.
The five-megawatt solar farm proposed by SunVest Solar would be built on around 48 acres of land on the northwest side of the airport property.
Along with the generation of renewable energy, the proposal is an opportunity to raise significant annual income. The City would be paid $1,800 per acre annually for the solar-farm property with a two percent escalator each year. That would bring in $86,400 in the first year and an estimated $2,767,000 over the 25-year term of the lease.
Under the proposal, a seven-foot-high deer fence would surround the solar farm. There would be a 50-foot setback from the panels to the nearest property to the west and a minimum setback of 50 feet from East Pleasant Street.
The DeKalb City Council supported the proposal when it was considered at their meeting on Oct. 11. A development agreement will be brought back for a vote.
