FOIA Request Sent to City of Dekalb Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City of Dekalb Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at DeKalb Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Dekalb Finance Department. We are seeking records related to sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 2024, till the present date.

Specifically, we have requested detailed information including the amount of sales tax collected from retailers by month compared with projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.

We believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we hope for a fee waiver for this request.

We await a response from the City of Dekalb Finance Department and will keep our readers updated as we continue our work in providing comprehensive coverage on local governmental affairs.
