Rep. Bob Pritchard (R-Hinckley) congratulated Jared Thorp and eight other DeKalb firefighters who were honored for their efforts at a statewide ceremony and memorial in Springfield recently.
Thorp earned the state’s highest honor for firefighters, the Medal of Honor, which is given to firefighters who demonstrate outstanding bravery or heroism, selflessness and personal courage while in the line of duty. The Firefighting Medal of Honor Committee and the State Fire Marshall designated Thorp for the honor.
The ceremony was an opportunity for firefighters from throughout Illinois, as well as their families, to come together and recognize the heroic actions and outstanding performances of their peers. The ceremony also allowed firefighters to honor their fallen comrades.
The DeKalb Fire Department received two Unit Citations and saw eight of its firefighters earn Excellence Awards. Honorees in the DeKalb Engine Co. #2 were Todd Adamson, Brett Gautcher, Tim Stiker and Chris Krupa. Those recognized in DeKalb Aerial Ladder Truck Co. #1 were Matt Holuj, Jon Ritter, Mike Thomas and Andrew Romano.
