A rainy forecast didn't stop state Rep. Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) from connecting with voters during a recent parade.

Keicher said on social media that the flurry of parades, community tours and door-to-door meet-and-greets represented an aggressive new shift in his strategy to keep his 70th District House seat.

“What an incredible past week and capped off with a parade last night that almost...but not quite...got rained out,” Keicher posted on Facebook.“We are in the process of moving forward on our next phase of the campaign. We’ve focused on aggressive door to door [sic] contact program thus far.”

He also encouraged constituents to reach out if they are interested in volunteering.

Keicher was recently appointed to the Illinois House seat vacated by former Rep. Bob Pritchard (R-Hinckley), who stepped down to take a board position with Northern Illinois University.

Although he has only been in the role a short time, he has already become a member of two education committees: one for elementary and secondary curricula, and the other covering licensing, administration and oversight.

Creating new jobs, a tax overhaul and declining state population are key issues on Keicher's platform. He faces Democrat Paul Stoddard in November’s general election.

District 70 includes Boone, DeKalb and Kane counties.
